NAMI walk raises money and awareness about mental health

JACKSON, Miss.(WJTV) – The National Alliance on Mental Illness is working to raise money for mental health programs in Mississippi.

On Saturday the organization held its annual 5K walk and wellness festival.

This year NAMI’s goal is to raise over $20,000 to help fund health programs for patients.

Staniel Wimbley, NAMI program director, says it’s possible to pull off the goal with the community’s help.

“i know we can do this, we just need the community to pull together and send in whatever they can to support the cause because it’s a great cause.” She added, “Our funds go to making sure that people can take classes and go to support groups and get information on mental wellness so they can educate themselves and be better community.”

The event also included food vendors, a kids corner and cartoon mascots.
