NAMI Mississippi offers a variety of internships throughout the year. All of the internships are unpaid but we will assist you in meeting the requirements of your school’s internship program and will provide letters of recommendation and references based on your performance.
Fall Semester: August 1
Spring Semester: January 1
Summer: May 1
The development intern will be able to experience all aspects of the development department including donor development, event planning, and communications. This internship will be heavily focused on assisting with event planning. The work the development intern does will contribute to the success of these ventures leading to continued monetary support for NAMI Mississippi’s programs.
This internship will help NAMI Mississippi prepare for the next fiscal year of grant proposals. The grants intern will update NAMI Mississippi’s organizational overview, write separate templates for each program, research new grant prospects, and assist with grant management. This position is invaluable in providing well written templates that will allow the staff the flexibility to readily respond to grant opportunities throughout the year.
Community Outreach Intern
This internship will work closely on micro and macro levels helping NAMI Mississippi better serve individuals living with a mental illness, their families, and other groups in the community impacted by mental illness. The Community Outreach intern will work on the NAMI Mississippi Helpline engaging individuals, making referrals, following-up with individuals, and working with other groups in the community to ensure that people are receiving and benefiting from NAMI Mississippi and other community-based programs.
Public Policy Research Intern
Advocacy efforts are a major part of NAMI Mississippi’s work. NAMI Mississippi is an active participant on work groups and committees that address issues related to mental illness and NAMI Mississippi maintains a strong presence at the Mississippi Legislature by advocating and supporting issues important to people living with mental illness and their families. The policy research intern will assist the executive director by researching topics related to work groups, committees, and legislative goals.
Volunteer Resources Intern
The volunteer resources intern will get to experience the entire process of volunteer coordination including recruitment, screening and interviewing, placement, evaluation, and appreciation.
The communications intern will get the experience of managing NAMI Mississippi’s email communications, partaking in social media opportunities, and constructing a newsletter for monthly distribution. The communication intern will also work with media outlets to ensure that NAMI Mississippi maintains a strong and positive presence throughout the Mississippi area.
